The Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) is an internationally oriented, independent research and advisory institution within the Danish Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities. GEUS carries out activities to exploit and protect geological resources in Denmark and Greenland. Primary activities are mapping, compilation and storage of data, research, monitoring and consultancy within water, energy, minerals and climate and environment. This includes research and technology development in relation to administration of legislation. GEUS also undertakes assignments related to energy, minerals, water, climate and the environment on a contractual basis for other public authorities, research agencies, private companies and clients outside Denmark.
GEUS is Sub-task leader of Task 1.1: Mapping of CO2 emission sources, transport options and storage sites. Under this sub-task GEUS together with BRGM is organising information from existing mapping of storage locations and corresponding capacity in the two ZEN regions. This compilation will be supplemented with information about the maturity of the storage sites (SRL level) and when they may become operative. The mapping will include onshore and offshore aquifers as well as depleted reservoirs.
This mapping will lead to identification of promising storage clusters (which could include sites from all above categories) with possibility of sharing backbone transport infrastructure. This involves also mapping of potential interaction with existing activities and possible co-location with protected areas such as Natura2000.
In Task 3 GEUS will contribute to the sub-tasks of Technical modelling of the selected value chains and in SWOT analyses.
In Task 5 GEUS will contribute to the sub-task for Exploitation strategy.
